Who are we?
The mission of LBC is to apply the principles and procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis to help people acquire new functional skills. We strive to make those skills become fluent (easy to perform) and generalized (used in different settings, with different people or for different purposes).
LBC’s programming and work with our clients is based on two traditions in Applied Behavior Analysis. The first is Verbal Behavior which is a structured series of procedures designed to teach children effective means to communicate with others. Initial applications of Verbal Behavior focus on having children clearly identifying their needs and wants to the world, and then moving onto labelling items, engaging in conversations, and later, labelling their feelings, developing plans for self-improvement, and engaging in thinking.
The second tradition that LBC’s treatment plans are based on is Precision Teaching, which refers to a precise and systematic method of evaluating treatment goals, procedures and overall curricula. Our staff collect data not just on how many behaviors clients perform but also collect data that allow us to examine the rate or frequency at which these behaviors are being performed. Simply showing that a behavior has occurred is not enough – we will need to demonstrate that it is being performed at an almost automatic level in order for the skill to make a lasting impact on our clients’ lives.
With over 30 years of clinical experience in schools, home-care, day-hab and residential facilities, our administrative team and technicians are committed to providing the best services to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities as well as emotional and behavioral difficulties.
